What is Chinese Studies?

Chinese Studies is a major within the Oriental Studies program at Yersin University of Da Lat.

This major equips students with knowledge of Chinese cultural regions, including history, culture, economy, politics, and geography. The scope of study extends beyond Mainland China to include Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and Chinese communities around the world, such as those in Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Hoi An, Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Vientiane, Jakarta, and more.

Students majoring in Chinese Studies will gain foundational knowledge of the history, culture, economy, politics, and natural environment of Chinese cultural regions.

To effectively access these areas of study, learners will be trained in Standard Chinese (Mandarin), which serves as the key tool for understanding China’s political system, economy, society, culture, literature, language, and history.

In addition, the program helps students develop language proficiency and broad perspectives to meet recruitment demands in fields such as trade, tourism, education, and diplomacy.
