On October 1, 2004, Yersin University of Dalat was officially established under Decision No. 175/2004/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister, becoming the first non-public university in the Central Highlands region. The university’s founders chose to name it after Dr. Alexandre John Emile Yersin to honor the French scientist whose name and career have been closely associated with Indochina and Vietnam.
Dr. A. Yersin was instrumental in discovering and proposing to the Governor-General of Indochina the idea of developing Dalat as a resort town at the end of the 19th century. This laid the foundation for Dalat’s growth into the livable city it is today. He made significant contributions to various fields, including medicine, veterinary science, agriculture, ethnology, and geography, benefiting humanity and especially Vietnam. In recognition of his impact, he was posthumously awarded the title of “Honorary Citizen of Vietnam” by the Vietnamese government in 2014.
To mark the 20th anniversary of the university’s establishment (October 1, 2004 – October 1, 2024), Yersin University of Dalat has launched an exhibition dedicated to Dr. A. Yersin. This space preserves a wealth of information and images about his remarkable life and career.
With the opening of this exhibition, Yersin University of Dalat aims to create a space where faculty, staff, students, and visitors who admire Dr. A. Yersin can explore and study his life and contributions. Additionally, Yersin University aspires to develop this exhibition into an artistic space, inspiring both educators and students.
The exhibition is located within the university campus at 27 Tôn Thất Tùng Street, Ward 08, Dalat City, Lâm Đồng Province. Visitors can conveniently access the site and enjoy free admission with guidance provided by the university.
The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday, with visits on Saturdays and Sundays available upon prior registration.
It is hoped that this exhibition will become a meaningful destination for those who admire Dr. A. Yersin in the coming time.
